Remote Interview Integrity: The Practical Checklist

Before You Open the Requisition

  • Define exactly what you are evaluating at each stage. Write it down.
  • Choose problems with multiple valid solutions and natural follow-up opportunities.
  • Train every interviewer on the evaluation rubric.
  • Decide on your integrity monitoring tool and set up candidate communication templates that explain what the tool does and why.

Before Each Interview

  • Send the candidate the session link, agent download instructions, and privacy notice at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Confirm the agent is running at the start of the interview (Zero Assist shows a green "connected" indicator in the interviewer dashboard).
  • Have a prepared script for what to say if a flag appears mid-interview.

During the Interview

  • Follow the structured rubric. Do not rely on gut feeling alone.
  • Watch for behavioral signals (unusual pauses, generic phrasing, perfect first-attempt code).
  • If an alert fires, note the timestamp and process name. Do not immediately confront the candidate — finish the session and evaluate afterward.
  • Save your notes immediately after the interview ends.

After the Interview

  • Debrief with the co-interviewer before either person sees the hiring decision of the other.
  • If a flag was raised, review the session data in the Zero Assist dashboard.
  • Decide whether to advance the candidate, ask clarifying questions in a follow-up session, or decline.
  • Store or delete session data according to your retention policy.
  • Document the reason for the hiring decision (required for GDPR accountability).

Quarterly Review

  • Review false-positive rate (alerts that turned out to be benign tools).
  • Review any candidate disputes.
  • Update the known-tools database if new cheating tools have emerged.
  • Retrain interviewers on any updated protocols.

This process takes about 20 minutes of setup per interview session. The investment pays for itself the first time you catch a candidate using a real-time AI cheat tool before making a hire you would later regret.
